Cyberespionage
Not even the Dalai Lama can escape cyberspies. Apparently, this intriguing news of cyberespionage was shared by the hacking operation Shadow Network, which used cloud computing systems, social networking platforms and free web hosting services to pinch various classified documents from the Offices of the Dalai Lama, including some confidential materials belonging to the U.N., the Embassy of Pakistan in the U.S. and others. According to a recently released report, Shadows in the Cloud, released by researchers from the Citizen Lab, Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto and Ottawa-based SecDev Group, the theft of this critical information and various other incidents was discovered as part of an eight-month-long investigation. And this, as well as other reported instances of cyberespionage, show that stealthy attackers are enlisting whatever weaknesses in systems they can to thieve corporate and government data surreptitiously. Given the rise in these kinds of attacks - what can organizations do to ensure they're hardening their systems as much as they can and, if they've been breached already, make certain the most critical of their assets don't get in the hands of the wrong people? Experts share background on the types of attacks to watch out for and what to do to thwart them.
